How do you know which colors are right for you?

Generally speaking, on most people staying within two levels (degree of lightness to darkness) from your natural color is going to be the most flattering and easy to maintain.

Example: if you are a dishwater blonde soft beige blondes are going to give you the most natural result.

Choose between a warm and cool blonde based on your skin tones and eye color. Whatever reflex you see in your eyecolor are usually the best direction to go for hightlights. If you have golden flecks in your eyecolor golden highlights will really sparkle.

For the more fashion oriented a good way to find your right colors is to look around you. I ask my clients to imagine their wardrobe or favorite room and talk about the colors they see in there. This give me a good idea of the colors they feel more comfortable in. If people are comfortable they generally feel more beautiful.

A colleague of mine, Danyel Nicole Competiello recommends a consulation using three sheets of fabric. One pure white, one very warm gold or bright orange, and one very cool like a bubblegum pink or burgundy. If you hold them under your chin and look the mirror as you switch them out look for the effects of your skin. If you see dark circles underyour eyes or your skin looks 'bad', then you know that isn't the right direction for you.

So, then you can tell if you should be looking for a warm or cool color.

Some lucky people can actually handle both and they can really have fun experiment with different haircolor and make up choices!
